How to Make a House out of Cardboard

If you ever go to YouTube, you would see hundreds of tutorial on how to turn things lying around your house into things that can be used to serve a purpose. Just like so, you can make a little house out of a cardboard box.

This house is suitable habitat for your little puppy, and it can also accommodate your kids’ dolls and serve as a dollhouse. With very few supplies and minimal skill, you can make a cardboard house for yourself in no time. This box can further be decorated and can be displayed as your amazing art project.

Supplies Needed:

You do not need any high tech supplies for this project. It is a simple project, and you can even involve your kids in it if you want. They will have fun, and they can get a little cardboard house to keep in their room.

• 3 Shoe Boxes ( Try to keep them the same size)
• A cardboard piece (it should be firm enough to hold the weight but should not be so sturdy that it cannot be folded )
• Scissors for cutting
• A ruler measuring
• A pencil for marking
• Glue as an adhesive
• A clean working area

These are all the supplies you need. Choose the shoe box well because this will be the size of your house. If you want to make a small one, you can get your kids’ shoe boxes and for a bigger house, go with your shoe boxes.

Instructions for Making the House:

The instructions for making the house are quite simple. Make sure that your working area is clean and that you have everything sorted well. If you are working with kids, keep them away from the scissors.

Step 1: Gluing the Shoe Boxes:
First, you need to a cut off the top part of the shoe boxes. Now, you have three shoe boxes, each of them will three sides intact only. Arrange the boxes to make a rectangle shape. Your rectangle will have one side missing, but that side will come in later.

Step 2: Deciding the Shape:
You can make it in two shapes. If you want the house to be more expanded in height, you can place the shoe boxes longitudinally or vertically. If you want the house to be more extended in width, you can place it horizontally.

Step 3: Making the Fourth Side:
To make the fourth side, take the cardboard and cut it according to the size of the front part. Cut a half oval or a rectangular piece in the middle of the cardboard. This will serve as the door. You can also cut out windows if you want.

Step 4: Making the Roof:
The extended part of your shoe box wall would have already covered the house. There would only be little space left in the center and can cover it either with cardboard or with a plastic paper that is plain or printed.

Step 5: Decorating the House:
To decorate the house, you can spray paint it any color you want, all over. Alternately, you can also paint it with a brush and make cute little patterns on the door and windows.

Hand garlands on the outside of the house or put fairy lights on it. Keep it anywhere in your actual house. There are other tutorials on how you can make a house with an open side for putting things in. This one is a mere DIY decoration.
